Doctor Bird

Jamaica’s national bird, the Doctor Bird, or streamer-/swallow-tail hummingbird, is indigenous to the island. It has been said that the name “Doctor Bird” originated because the bird’s black crest and tail resemble the top hat and long-tail coats that were worn by doctors in the old days. These stunning birds are covered in shimmering feathers that seem to change colour when seen from different angles.
